Fundraising Policy at ISGKC
Fundraising By Other Organizations at the Islamic Center of Greater Kansas City
Requests for fundraising at the Islamic Center of the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City (ISGKC) are received on regular basis. These requests are, generally, for quick fundraisers after Salat-ul-Juma or Isha prayer. However, requests asking the ISGKC to hold formal fundraising dinners for various causes or leaving collection boxes at the Islamic Center for daily collection of funds etc. are also occasionally received. It is obvious that a clear policy to deal with these fundraising requests is needed.
Whereas, the Islamic community of the Greater Kansas City area is a generous community, and whereas the ISGKC would like to honor requests of all the Islamic organizations who wish to raise funds at its Islamic Center located at 8501 East 99th St. Kansas City Missouri to build a Mosque, or an Islamic School, or to help people affected by natural or man-made disasters – the fact is that it can accommodate only a limited number of such requests each year. Consequently, the board of directors has approved the following policy effective immediately:
- All requests for fundraising should be directed to the attention of the ISGKC Service Manager who will log each request and maintain records about its disposition.
- The Service Manager shall present each request, along with his comments, if any, to the Executive Committee for its consideration.
- The Executive Committee shall evaluate each request by using an established criteria, such as the organization must be registered as a 501 (C) (3) in the state where it is located.
- Based on the Service Manager’s comments and its own evaluation, the Executive Committee shall render its decision.
- If the request is approved, it will be approved for a quick fundraiser after Salat-ul-Jumah or after the Isha Prayer.
- The Service Manager shall email the EC’s decision, as to who got the permission to raise funds on what date and time and who did not get the permission, to the ISGKC BOD a couple of days prior to formally informing the organizations making the requests.
- Should the BOD deem it necessary to make any changes, its decision shall be considered final.
- The proceeds from the fundraiser in the form of checks, credit card transactions and pledges shall be handed over to the representative of the organization raising funds. However, the ISGKC shall issue a check for the amount of cash collected.
- The organizations receiving permission to raise funds shall be reminded that the permission is being granted with the understanding that the ISGKC may make a similar request to raise funds at their place in the near future.
